Jay Yelas – Potomac River

Bucks Skeeter Yamaha

YelasBlogWell I flew home for just 3 days after the Red River event, and it was good to see the family. I am back on the water this week at the Potomac River FLW Open. The Potomac is one of my favorite venues, probably because I have had a lot of success here over the years. It is the place of my first BASS win in 1993. I had quite a run here from ’92 to ’94, finishing 2nd, 1st, and 2nd in BASS events. I’ve had a couple of other top 10s here as well over the years.

The fishery is still prolific, with tons of grass and bass all over the river. I look for it to take 14 pounds a day to make the top 20 cut, and about 60 pounds to win over 4 days. There are lots of 2 pound fish biting, but the 3+ fish are scarce.

The fish are postspawn. There are fry around, but it is definitely summer time up here. The weather has been brutally hot, with highs in the upper 90s and humidity levels around 90%. The water temp rose to 92 yesterday, which to me is unreal for May 31st.

I look to have a good event as my practice went well, and I am due for a high finish.
