John Crews – Prep for Elite Season

Bucks Falcon Mercury

Crews Missile Blog HeaderHey folks, John Crews here with my first installment of the Crews Missile Blog on Advanced Angler.

By the time you read this, I’ll be in Orange, Tex. for the first Elite Series event on the Sabine River and then on to Falcon.   Whenever you pack for – especially two events – you’ve got to make sure that you’ve got everything you might need.

It is a little bit different for the guys from out west that come east for the entire season because they are not able to drop off tackle and get what they need in between events.  But, I can go home between events because I am very centrally located so I get to exchange tackle.

Because of that, I get to make sure that I have everything that I need for each event.

When I do that, it really helps me to make sure that I’ve got every color D Bomb that I might need; I’ve got every type of crank bait; make sure that I’ve got every rod that I might need.  I am bringing a lot of rods to this Texas trip that I was not using at the Classic – and I left a number of rods that I was using at the Classic in Virginia because  I had different ones to bring down here.

So, a lot of preparation goes into every event; and I don’t think a lot of people understand the type of preparation and the hours and hours just for these two events to prepare my Bass Cat.  I’ve got to get all of my tackle; SPRO baits and Missile Baits, my Pinnacle rods, reels, my Vicious Line properly stored,  and everything that goes along with leaving for two weeks.

I think, probably, fifteen to twenty hours worth of work over the week before I left in order to get ready and not be discombobulated or just be disillusioned when I get down there – I’m prepared and I’ve got everything in line and I know what I am going to be doing.

That was what this past week for me was about.

I had a 15 to 20 hour drive getting down here, but that was okay, I’ve got a new Bluetooth device that I was excited about using I did my best to kill the battery on that thing before the end of the travel day and moved on to the next Bluetooth device to kill that one too.  I can get a lot of work done on the road while I’m sitting behind a windshield.
