ICAST – New Shimano Chronarch CI4

Power Pole

IRVINE, Calif. – ICAST 2013 Introduction (available August) – Relying on ‘inner friction’ to provide consistent brake force with its new SVS Infinity braking system, along with a lightweight, sensitive platform with new frame material, Shimano introduces the Chronarch CI4+ baitcasting reels. For precision casting and finesse techniques when targeting bass, or to attack the salt for redfish and sea trout, the new series includes the Chronarch CH150CI4+ and left-hand retrieve CH-151CI4+ with 6.2:1 gear ratios, and the CH-150CI4+HG and 151CI4+HG with 7.6:1 gear ratios.

Shimano’s new SVS Infinity brake system controls spool speed for precision casting especially when using lighter lures. And external adjustment knob provides for quick, precise adjustments for either the conditions or when you switch baits. “Anglers worldwide always look to Shimano for the next technology in fishing reels,” said Robby Gant with Shimano’s product development staff. “When you combine SVS Infinity with our X-Ship technology, and then include no flex, rigid construction with our lightweight CI4+ material, we provide the ideal fishing tool for an assortment of freshwater and saltwater applications with the new Chronarch reels.”

A new carbon material evolving from the original CI4, Shimano has increased the lightness of the material along with adding rigidity. “This new advancement in the carbon we use to construct the frame means no flexing,” Gant said, “plus a lighter, even more durable reel that will hold up whether it’s fishing a heavy tournament schedule, or just a reel that you want season after season of use.

Bass anglers will appreciate the 32-inches of line retrieved per crank to come tight quick when fishing worms and jigs with the 7.6:1 gear ratio HG versions. The 6.2:1 gear ratio models can provide more versatile use – jigs, small crankbaits, jerkbaits and swimbaits – while retrieving 26-inches of line per crank.

In the salt, anglers are provided the added benefit of the “anti-corrosion structure of the CI4+ frame construction,” Gant said. “Not only light and compact so you can experience all-day casting comfort, at the end of the day you have no worries with saltwater corroding the reel.”

With seven S-ARB anti-rust ball bearings, and a one-way roller bearing for absolutely no handle backplay, the Chronarch CI4+ reels are designed to be with either PowerPro braided line or monofilament. The reels will handle from 150 yards of 20-pound test to 105 yards of 40-pound test PowerPro – or 145 yards of 10-pound to 90 yards of 14-pound mono.
