(CHESAPEAKE, Va.) – (Marine NewsWire) Volvo Penta of the Americas today announced the addition of a new 350 hp V8 gas engine to its growing line of new-generation marine sterndrives.

Based on Volvo Penta’s award-winning V8-380 engine block, the new V8-350 is more than 200 lbs. lighter in weight than any other marine engine in its horsepower class, providing market-leading performance-to-weight ratio.

The new V8-350 features Variable Valve Timing (VVT) technology, which optimizes torque at low RPM while maximizing performance at high RPM. The result is faster acceleration, increased top speed and smoother response in the mid-RPM range. The new Volvo Penta engines are also at least 20 percent more fuel efficient than earlier-model sterndrives, and they exceed U.S. EPA emission requirements by a wide margin.

“Volvo Penta continues to be a leader with the widest range of marine propulsion from single 13 hp to 4,800 hp quad installations,” said Ron Huibers, president of Volvo Penta of the Americas. “The investments we continue to make in the gas range, including our standard five-year factory warranty coverage, are bringing new, exciting performance to the sterndrive segment.”

The V8-350 comes with Electronic Vessel Control (EVC) as an option, which provides full propeller-to-helm integration. EVC options include Volvo Penta joystick docking, the new Glass Cockpit helm station, which won the IBEX Innovation Award and METS DAME Award in 2013, and much more. It also comes with Volvo Penta’s industry-leading “2+3” warranty coverage that gives North American boat owners five years of factory protection.
