HomeblogsDave Lefebre – From Wheeler to the TTBC The Wheeler Lake FLW Tour Open didn’t go anywhere near like I’d visualized it, but I managed to salvage it at least, and hang on to my top five placement in the standings with only one Open remaining. I moved up to 3rd overall with my 31st place finish and I now need a top 25 or so at Sam Rayburn in a couple weeks to ice a birth in the 2013 Forrest Wood Cup. It won’t be easy though, several seriously good “sticks” are hanging around the top 10. I’m practicing for the Texas Bass Classic on Lake Conroe currently, but all I can think about is Rayburn in a couple weeks, lol. It’s a big deal to pre-qualify for the FWC, I hope I can pull it off, it just takes off a ton of pressure next year. Conroe has been pretty good to me in the past and I had a couple of productive days so far in this practice. The lake is tiny, and I only wish they wouldn’t give us so many days to pre-fish. By the time the event rolls around every dang fish in the lake has been educated, and having a Pro-Am the day before the actual tournament is kinda goofy too, everyone just goes around beating someone else’s fish, lol. Oh well, it is what is I guess and somebody is still going to win it. I had over 30lbs yesterday, including a 9lber, and around 18-20 today. I’ve spent 75% of my time fishing off-shore but caught some good ones shallow, deep, and everywhere in between. I think it’s a little tough overall, but I feel like the weights are going to be on the big side, similar to last year. Based on what I’ve seen also, I’d say Keith Combs has a serious shot at defending his title. After this tournament ends I’ve got a week to kill. I bought my salt-water tag just in case someone offers to take me out in the Gulf or something, lol. But I also wouldn’t mind taking a week off and getting organized and getting some rest. There is also an Ever Start event on Lake of the Pines that I could jump into if I feel the need to play next weekend, who knows? I’ll keep an open mind. For now I need to focus on Conroe and talking another TTBC Championship Ring back to Erie!
