Jay Yelas – Getting Ready for Kentucky Lake

YelasBlogI made a quick trip back to Oregon last week after the Potomac FLW. I was home for just 4 nights, but it was so good to see Jill and the girls. I took Bethany fishing one morning and we caught a limit of spring Chinook. What a great time! There is nothing better than putting your kids on good fish.

The girls just got out of school. They both did very well in school this year and make their Daddy proud! They are looking forward to a fun summer.

I flew back to Nashville last Friday to get ready for this weeks FLW Major on Kentucky Lake. My OSU Beavers were in Nashville that day for the baseball Super Regional against Vanderbilt. I almost went, but was glad I didn’t as they got killed. It wouldn’t have been any fun.

Kentucky Lake is such a pleasure to fish. I have been prefishing the last 3 days and having plenty of fun. Lots and lots of bass here. Hundreds of locals on the lake every day, this is one of the bass fishing capitals of the world.

I fished deep and shallow in practice. All the tournaments are won deep here in the summer, but everyone fishes deep so the good spots are crowded with boats. A man can go shallow here this time of year and have the whole lake to himself. You can catch 40 bass a day shallow, but not many big ones. It sure is fun though.

My plan is to fish Lake Barkley tomorrow, and I am excited about it. It is the first time in a while I’ve had an area with enough bass to just drop the MinnKota and fish it all day. Should be fun.
