HomeNewsBoat U.S. College to Air August 28 FLORENCE, Ala. – They study hard to get good grades. But that’s not the only reason why these college kids hit the books. It’s to live the dream of being of a collegiate angler participating in the pinnacle of college fishing: The BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship held on Lake Pickwick in Florence, Alabama. Now, fishing fans across the country can watch the young men and women compete when the championship airs on the NBC Sports Network’s “Destination America,” Wednesday, August 28 at 2:30pm EST. The BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship is the marquee event of three nationally televised tournaments hosted as part of the Cabela’s Collegiate Bass Fishing Series that includes the Cabela’s Collegiate Big Bass Bash and Collegiate Bass Fishing Open. These no entry fee events are open to all full-time students of university-recognized fishing programs, and some travel for hundreds of miles to compete, balancing schoolwork with their passion for fishing. The BoatUS Championship started in 2005 with just 40 teams and 78 college anglers and has seen phenomenal growth, blossoming into 200 teams and over 400 anglers from across the country this year. All will converge on Lake Pickwick and Florence, Alabama for what shapes up to be an epic battle on the water, full of unfolding strategies. “Some work out well, and others backfire along the way,” says Tournament Director and Show Producer Wade Middleton of CarecoTV. “You’ll see some students head home heroes, while others really feel the heartbreak over what could have been.” Day two of the action airs Wednesday, September 4 at 2:30pm.
