Jay Yelas – From the Red to the Capital

Bucks Skeeter Yamaha

YelasBlogHey Advanced Angler readers, it’s Jay Yelas, I’m going to be a part of the bloggers here, and I’m excited to be a part of it. So, my first update comes on the heels of the fourth tournament of the season

We finished up with the FLW Tour Major at the Red River, and the bite was just super tough. I think it only took like 47 pounds to win the 4 day event. I ended up 37th, which moved me up 15 places in the AOY race as many guys bombed in this one. You just had to grind all day to catch 4 or 5 little keepers.

I caught mine flipping and pitching Berkley Havoc Craw Fattys in lily pads. The wind blew hard everyday, and my MinnKota Talon really came in handy. I was just one good bite away from the cut. But hey, that place was so tough, I felt blessed and thankful for what I did catch. I was disappointed with my finish, but feel I am getting closer to getting my A game back. It has been a long dry spell for me.

I drove to Alabama and spent the night at my buddy Scott Canterbury’s house last night, and flew home for 4 nights, and fly back Friday. Then I finished the drive up to the Potomac for the FLW Tour Open and am practicing for that. I hope to have some good news for you after the event.
