John Murray – Sabine River to Falcon Lake

Bucks Skeeter Yamaha

MurrayBlogI am currently driving between  Sabine River and Falcon Lake, Texas; so couldn’t ask for a bigger difference in the kind of waterways we’re going to and I’m following Skeet and we’re on the highway and headed to Laredo right now – it is early Sunday morning and we are driving.

That tournament last week was one of the strangest tournaments I’ve ever fished.  I had that bad break the first day – mechanical issue – never got to weigh in and second day had one of the most magical days I have ever had in a tournament.

I fished an area on the second day that had just opened up and the fish were big and they were hungry.  Caught some big ones to get back in contention and then go back to some similar areas and never catch a keeper on the second day or the last day.  That was very strange!  I don’t think I have ever blanked two out of three days and got a check before in the Elite Series; in fact,  I know I haven’t.

Anyway, while the fishing wasn’t great, it turned out to be a great week, great place to fish as far as tough fishing, but, the place was nice; everyone there was friendly – just great support down there and now we are headed down to Zapata, Texas  – I haven’t been there in five years, but looking forward to getting down there.

I have no idea of what to expect other than it will be the biggest fish we will catch all year – so we will get out there and just try to fish straight – that’s just really what you’ve got to do on a lake like this – fish your strength and hopefully get on a bite that works for you and be competitive with those monster fish.  A limit of just three and four pounders just doesn’t cut it down here I don’t think?  So, I’m gonna have to find those five and six pounders.

Should be a fun week; I am looking forward to it and… I’m ready to go!
