A Jackson teenager confessed to fatally shooting a Texas fisherman over the weekend, Jackson, Miss., police said.

Authorities arrested and charged 17-year-old Shaun Brown with capital murder in connection with the death of James “Jimmy” Johnson on Tuesday, Public Information Officer Colendula Green said.

Jackson police found Johnson, 56, dead at 7:48 p.m. Sunday in a Motel 6 parking lot, 6145 Interstate 55 North.

Green said after reviewing surveillance footage, the motive is thought to be robbery.

“I think the suspect approached this victim demanding money, and that’s when the altercation ensued,” she said Monday.
